Saturday, March 15, 2025 – Schladming (Austria)
Second day of competition in Schladming for a night Sprint race, in an electric atmosphere at the Planai Stadium, with a crowd of supporters gathered to cheer the athletes on a particularly steep and thrilling track. Emily Harrop (FRA) and Oriol Cardona Coll (ESP) claimed victory, just like a year ago.
Women’s Race Highlights
The qualifications kicked off at 16:40 (CET) with 62 athletes lining up at the start. The best 30 times got qualified to the heats, then 12 to the semi-finals, before the final showdown with 6 best athletes.
On the start line of the final: Emily Harrop (FRA), alongside Marianne Fatton (SUI), Caroline Ulrich (SUI), Ana Alonso Rodriguez (ESP), Maria Costa Diez (ESP) and Giulia Murada (ITA).
Marianne Fatton took the lead into the diamonds section, with Emily Harrop closely on her heels. Caroline Ulrich held third place entering the foot part section, followed by Ana Alonso, Maria Costa Diez, and Giulia Murada.
During the foot part, Emily Harrop delivered a stunning performance, took the lead andjust kept extending the gap until she crossed the finish line, securing a victory. Behind her, Marianne Fatton claimed the second place, while Ana Alonso overtook Caroline Ulrich in the final uphill to grab the last spot on the podium.
Emily’s Reaction:
“It’s really cool to win again. Of course, in Morgins, I was disappointed with second place because it was really the big goal of my season. Marianne was amazing. I want to try new things in this part of the season. I started here in Schladming, and we’ll see how it goes. Today, I’m really happy!”
Final Results:
- Emily Harrop (03:08.57)
- Marianne Fatton (03:04.1)
- Ana Alonso Rodriguez (03:05.3)
- Caroline Ulrich (03:16.3)
- Maria Costa Diez (03:19.7)
- Giulia Murada (03:21.2)
Men’s Race Highlights
In the men’s race, a total of 78 athletes lined up at the start.
The 6 finalists who made it through the qualification rounds were Oriol Cardona Coll (ESP), Thibault Anselmet (FRA), Jon Kistler (SUI), Nikita Filippov (AIN), Iñigo Martinez (ESP), and Rocco Baldini (ITA).
At the start, Oriol Cardona Coll took the lead, closely followed by Thibault Anselmet, Jon Kistler, and Nikita Filippov in the same lane of the diamond section.
In the foot part, Oriol Cardona Coll and Thibault Anselmet gained a slight advantage over the rest of the group. Thibault Anselmet managed to come back at the same level as his rival at the last transition.
But Oriol Cardona Coll was just a fraction faster, and despite Thibault taking all the risks on the downhill, it wasn’t enough. The result mirrored last year’s: the Spaniard claimed victory, while the Frenchman secured second place.
In third place, Swiss athlete Jon Kistler earned his third podium of the season, while Nikita Filippov, competing under a neutral banner, finished fourth, his best result so far in a Sprint race of a ISMF World Cup.
Oriol’s Reaction:
“It means a lot to me to win today. It’s the 3rd time we’ve been racing here and I’m happy to win again since last year. The track was very tactical. The ambiance was super nice. Everything was really cool today.”
Final Results:
- Oriol Cardona Coll (02:26.7)
- Thibault Anselmet (02:27.6)
- Jon Kistler (02:38.3)
