The Spanish duo Ana Alonso Rodriguez and Oriol Cardonna Coll win the first Mixed Relay of the season

Sunday, January 26, 2025 – Comapedrosa (Andorra) – Victory for the Spanish team, ahead of France and Switzerland, in a fiercely contested first Mixed Relay.

A total of 24 nations align a team for this Mixed Relay. This was the first of five Mixed Relay races in the World Cup season. The points accumulated will play a key role in the qualification for the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games.

Race highlights

The course consisted in a first ascent on skis of 70 m of elevation, a downhill, then a second ascent of 70 m of elevation including a passage on foot and then the final a downhill. The conditions were pretty cold and windy in Col de la Botella, the area where the race took place in the station of Pal Arinsal.

The qualification kicked off at 9:45 AM, starting with the women. Giulia Murada (ITA) clocked the fastest time (8:33.41), followed by Ana Alonso (ESP) (08:44.94) and Emily Harrop (FRA) (08:46.35).

Grand Final (A) highlights:

In the first lap, Emily Harrop (FRA) and Ana Alonso (ESP) took the lead. Thanks to a faster transition, Ana handed off the relay in first position to Oriol Cardonna (ESP). Marianne Fatton (SUI) followed closely behind.

During the second lap, Oriol solidified Spain’s lead, while the Swiss team climbed into second position. Emily managed to regain first place after her second lap, but Oriol reclaimed the lead in the final lap, securing a well-deserved victory for Spain.

This exceptional result earned Spain the top spot on the podium, a remarkable achievement for a nation that finished fourth in last season’s overall raking of the Mixed Relay.
